However, now is a good time to consider the implications of our attire after living a restricted and simpler life during COVID. Fashion, and particularly fast fashion, has a significant social and environmental impact on our planet. Sustaina

Planning to buy Gold Jewellery? Check for HUID then

Fashion, Society
In 2021, the Government of India updated the jewellery hallmarking scheme to protect gold consumers from the menace caused by fake laser hallmarks. Hallmark Unique Identification Number (HUID) is a six-digit code consisting of letters and numbers. Each piece of jewellery will be assigned HUID and inscribed on it using laser technology during the process of hallmarking. For controlling the system, the details of HUID are stored in the BIS database. Now, while buying gold, consumers have to check for 3 symbols. First BIS logo. Second, the purity and fitness symbol and third, the HUID symbol. Basically, the hallmark is a certification presented to ensure the quality of gold. These hallmarks are laser embarked. 916 hallmarking is a promise that the jewellery piece contains 91.6 % gol...

International repatriation of Human Remains to India is complex, protracted, and bureaucratic.  On the death of an Indian, a Funeral Agent acts as the power of attorney to comply with the procedures established by the respective Embassy and Consulate.  The duty of the funeral agent is to compile the requisite documents of the deceased, that is duly translated and attested by the Consulate or the Embassy.   The dossier is thereafter submitted to the respective Airport Authority of India for clearance.  Once the clearance is obtained from the Airport Authority of India, the Human Remains are embalmed and the coffin is handed over to the airports where the Human Remains are preserved in a ‘cold room’ so as to decrease the rate of decomposition and disintegration of cells and the Human Rema

Lost and found in Italy: A terrific experience and the lesson learnt

On a good and early summer in Italy, traveling from Porta Nuova to San Marino, in Turin, on Tram 4, I encountered the most grim and ghastly experience of my entire life. On this populous jaunt, a fraudster craftily robbed my wallet which had cards bearing identifying data and debit cards.  As I stepped off Tram 4, my smartphone rattled with notification(s) of money being debited from both my Indian debit card and Italian debit card.  The crafty criminal began to use my contactless debit cards, and within 7 minutes made over 40 transactions of 2500INR (the minimal amount that can be withdrawn without the need of a pin number) and I suffered exorbitant monetary loss. Lifeless and discomposed for a split second, I was attempting to digest these ersatz transactions; I instantly calle

Brutish challenges suppress Indian girls from being empowered and put their future in darkness.  Nearly 1 in 4 girls aged 15 - 19 globally are neither in education, employment nor training, compared to 1 in 10 boys.  UNESCO estimates that globally 129 million girls are out of school, including 32million of primary school age, and 97million of secondary school age. Child marriage is a critical challenge, it has jeopardized and continues to jeopardize the rights of girls in India.  This evil practice has and continues to exclude girls from fundamental decision making such as the timing of marriage and choice of spouse.  Even in this millennium era, girls living in rural areas are twice as likely to be married before 18 with no education.  Girls who marry young are much more likely to drop
