Food you should start eating before the summer strikes

With the summers already setting, we are eager to hand out by the beaches and enjoy the outdoor activities that we have missed during the winters. But with the summers stepping in many of us struggle coping with the hot weather outdoors and sweating, as it increases the risks of many health issues like – dehydration, skin sensitivities and vitamin and nutrient deficiencies.

Well, this summer gear yourself up with some easily available and healthy foods that will not only let you enjoy the hot months and vacation in a much better way but will also help you fight the heat.

Here are some great foods that will make you summer ready in the healthiest way:

  • Get with the watery melons to begin:

Summers are incomplete without this great summer fruit. Apart from being loaded with plenty of water, it has lycopene, a great agent for protecting skins from sun damages. It also helps in keeping full because of its water content and does not makes you crave for unprocessed and unhealthy foods and drinks.

  • Do it the corn way:

Summers are time for some amazing fruits and vegetables, but still corn is suggested as it contains lutein and zeaxanthin, the two great antioxidants that provides defence from harmful ultra violet rays. Have it steamed, boiled or in your favorite dish, it is also very rich in fiber.

  • The two berries – blackberry and raspberry:

High in vitamin C and fibers, are delicious summer foods and contains valuable antioxidants properties. Both are ideal foods for weight management and is a rich source of fiber and many other vital properties.

  • The yummy yogurt way:

Nothing could be more soothing and relaxing than to cool down with yogurt. Rich in proteins is ideal and made for summers. It keeps you full and keeps you away from unwanted snacking on salty and fatty foods. It has added certain doses of probiotics and beneficial bacteria that helps in keeping the digestive system working smoothly during the hotter months.

  • Salads with dark leafy green veggies:

Wondering what to eat for in vegetables in the summers? – Try dark leafy vegetables like the kale and spinach. These veggies provides great protection to the body against the summer heat, detoxifies the body and reduces inflammation. The carotenoids in the vegetables converts in vitamin A, which protects the skin and body from sun damages.

  • The nutty factor:

Grab a handful of cashew nuts, almonds and peanuts for snacking, which are great way to fill the body with essential monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. These fats lower the levels of bad fats and replace them with good ones.

  • The cucumber season:

Another inexpensive, yet very refreshing and healthy summer vegetable is cucumber. It is one of the best choice of vegetable to eat in the summers, as it refreshes the body and helps in skin problems like dark circles and sunburns. Its silicon and sulphur promotes hair growth and its high water content cleanses the body by removing harmful toxins. Its immune boosting and anti-inflammatory properties are also great for heart health.

  • Oranges all around:

The citrus fruit is rich in potassium, a crucial nutrient for summers. We tend to loose potassium through our sweat that causes muscular cramps. Oranges replenishes the supply and keeps us away from muscle cramps. Its high water content keeps you hydrated in a sweet way.

  • The green tea:

You need to keep hydrated during the summers, and apart from water, green tea is a great way in doing so. It has great properties like – lowering cholesterol, fighting heart diseases and cancers and boosting the metabolism.

  • Ever refreshing coconut water:

There is no summer without coconut water. It is great summer delight and a powerhouse of nutritional benefits. It contains electrolytes that makes it, one of the best hydrating agents. Besides helping you cool down in the summers, it helps in reducing blood pressure, have great anti-ageing properties and is very refreshing. Re-energize this summer with this cool and healthy drink.
