Pankaja Sethi’s Odisha Textiles experiments enthralled the audience at LFW 2018

Ever since Pankaja Sethi graduated in Textile Designing from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi in 2001, she has been renowned for her research with Adivasi women and weavers of Odisha. Her ‘Pankaja’ label at 6Degree Studio at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2018 was a panoply of patterns fused together in varied woven stories.

Pankaja’s fortè has always been giving a contemporary twist to hand-woven textiles where the designs, weaves and stories come together in perfect unison.

With a collection as interesting as it weaves, the underlying essence of the ensembles was to promote weavers from different parts of rural India. Stripes were mesmerizingly blended with checks, while extra weft patterns created a kaleidoscope of creativity. Pockets were incorporated in backless saris, which are naturally worn by the rural women in Orissa. Focusing on comfort as their main element, each silhouette was easy to wear and yet made an impact.

Offering the fashion-conscious buyers of the 21st century an innovative profile of unusual drapes, the collection enhanced the beauty of Odisha and Adivasi folklore in hand woven and organic cotton that was tastefully dipped in natural dyes and weaves.

Pankaja cleverly highlighted the very exciting raw textures of the fabrics along with the earthy hues that brought to center stage the beauty of nature and woven fashion. The color palette mainly remained muted with tints and tones of rustic greys, off-whites and beige. Emphasising the essence of weaving were two women standing together with their hands connected with red and yellow threads.

For lovers of organic, traditional, hand woven, textiles with a rustic touch that has been given a New Age vibe, Pankaja Sethi’s ‘Pankaja’ label offered truly classic options.
