The traditional wear of Keralites – sarees in ivory white with golden borders- has fascinated many international designers. Many designs were born from the concept of “ Kasavu saree”.

Kasavu saree was born from kasavu mund. Traditional ladies of Kerala used to wear kasavu mund with mere blouses, which later on had a kasavu shall to hide the torso. The kasavu mund then transformed to sarees. But many women still prefer mund for traditional occasions like festivals or temple visits.

Ivory white glean of kasavu sarees suits the India skin tone. As it is said, Kerala and Bengal shares common likes, Kerala saree is well alike the Bengali traditional sarees. They are made of same fabric and they are almost of the same color – white. When Bengalis prefer red for helm line, the Keralites opt for golden.

• Understand your body

If your skinny, you can go for Kasuvu sarees that are crafted in fabrics like silk, tusser, stiff cotton or organdie. Let the hemline be grand with heavy designs.
If you are on the bubbly side, you can very well go with soft fabrics. Remember, the hemline / border should be thin and the pallu also should not contain broad, hefty designs.

• Things to be noted while stitching Blouses

There are a few things to be noted while choosing blouses. Let the skinny go for plain colored blouses with ample works and designs along the borders. If you are heavy, go for dark colored, printed designs. Choosing v neck or heart shaped necks will suit the bubbly. Highlighting the neck with stone works will make you look chubbier.
If you have a long neck, you can try collared or semi collared blouses.


Long length sleeve that ends after the elbow suits both skinny and the bubbly. Let us not give linings in the sleeves that make your arms look over sized. Invent more trends by picking net or lycra materials for the sleeves. Sleeveless, or micro sleeves definitely suits women who are slim.

• Tuck-in

Perfectly tuck in your sarees. Tucking in the pleet below your navel gives you a better shape and the more number of pleet, the prettier.
